critical hits with spells? i swear....
lately, i've been scoring 2.5x dmg with my spells every now and then.
my buddy claims that there's not such thing but he's not a caster and I have no reason to lie. If it's not a critical strike, then what is causing this? does anyone out there know what it is and what generates more of these "critical hits"? |

I've asked everyone in my party and the only thing that might have done it was "winter" which makes the spells do cold dmg.
This is against fire mobs, the ones in the last mission. So these mobs would be vulnerable to cold dmg, however, the dmg wasn't consistent. It seemed to happened randomly, with or without "winter" being on. The behavior is much more like a critical strike. |

The enemy using Healing Signet allows you to deal double damage. Done by the hands and fists of the titan. Is this the situation you refer to?

2.5 times sound too much for Frenzy or Winter, which can both cause double damage.
I sometimes noticed that my direct damage spells, like Vampiric Gaze, were doing double damage and it took me a while to figure out that it was because of Frenzy, which causes a straight doubling of damage. Elemental damage against mobs with that vulnerability causes double damage too. Are you sure its 2.5 times normal damage or is that just a rough figure? |

I've seen this too, it's weird and happens completely at random. My guess is that some monsters are less armored on some bodyparts (like head) so you do more dmg in the rare instance you hit them there.

spells cant critical, so its just most likely hitting a part of the body with lower AL to the element.

Well I did some minor notes with my ranger on the Hell's Precipice mission and although I seemed to hit for more than 2.5 times the damage while using winter, it does seem very similar to what I was experiencing, winter should be more cinsistent than a critical hit though. And like Lasareth said, hands and fists of the titan use healing signet every now and then, giving them -40 AL, but that shouldn't give you that much extra damage, it would however appear similar to critical hits since it only happens every now and again.
